butter mints

WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO MAKE TWO BATCHES OF THESE AT A TIME YOUR KITCHEN WILL LOOK DUSTED WITH SNOW!!!
Absolutely addictive.

1/2C butter softened
4 1/2C powdered sugar
2T milk
1-2tsp peppermint extract
Food coloring optional
Water as needed

Mix the sugar, butter, milk, extract and coloring until it forms a ball.  i found I had to add 1-2tsp of water get it to the ball stage.  Add a couple of drops at a time.
Divide the dough into 3-4 pieces and roll into long 1/2" ropes.  Cut into small pieces.  I did this on wax paper just to contain the mess.
Lay on trays for at least 24 hours to dry and store in air tight containers.
